What is Soy Wax?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. The process starts with domestically grown, U.S. soybeans from which the oil is separated. The oil is then purified and goes through a process called hydrogenation which changes it from liquid oil to a solid shortening at room temperature. The wax we use undergoes a purification process to thoroughly remove any pesticides, herbicides or Genetically Modified Materials (GMM).

What is the difference between a soy candle & a traditional candle?

Traditionally, candles were made with paraffin wax. An end-product of petroleum, Paraffin contains up to 11 carcinogenic compounds deemed 'toxic air contaminants' by the State of California. An air quality researcher, David Krause, has documented evidence that candle soot particles contain many of the same compounds as burning diesel fuel. The petrol-carbon soot that paraffin wax emits can blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture, contaminate ventilation ductwork in your home, as well as add toxic carcinogens into the air you breathe.

Soy candles are better for you and for the environment. Soy wax is non-toxic and burns cleaner than paraffin, with no petrol-carbon soot.  Soy candles burn slower and cooler than paraffin wax, giving them a longer life-span than paraffin candles. Since soybeans are vegetables, soy wax is naturally biodegradable, making it easier to remove from the candle container after burning, easier to clean up if spilled on other surfaces, and comes out of clothing in the wash.

What is the proper way to care for My Serenity candle?

Your Serenity candle will come with a sticker at the bottom of the vessel, describing burning instructions.
When burning, make sure the melt pool has reached the edge of the container. This is roughly 3-4 hours. Avoid extinguishing the candle before that. If the candle is extinguished too quickly, you may experience tunnelling. Discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains.
To prevent fire and serious injury, burn your candle within sight. Keep away from drafts. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Never burn your candle on or near anything that can catch fire.

What are My Serenity candles made of?

My Serenity candles are hand poured with care using simple ingredients- all natural soy wax, 100% cotton wicks, premium fragrance oils and essential oils. That’s it. Soy wax releases fragrances naturally, is water soluble, biodegradable and lasts for 25-50% longer than paraffin. It is free from pesticides and herbicides and it’s non toxic to the environment.

Why is my candle bumpy after burning?

If the rate of cooling is inconsistent, the candle top might appear bumpy and rough after drying. This is a bi product of all natural soy wax and it does not affect the performance of the candle.

Why is my candle sweating?

When exposed to fluctuations, moving from cooler temperatures to warmer ones, and also when pure soy wax is used, the oils in the candle may rise to the surface, in the form of small droplets. This does not affect the performance of the candle and once the candle is lit, the oils blend right back into to the wax.

My candle isn't burning evenly and is tunnelling, is there something I am doing wrong?

When you light your candle, let it burn until the wax melt reaches the edges of the container. That establishes the memory of the wax and will allow it to burn evenly all the way down. For more information see our Candle Care page.
